SMT – Structure Monitoring Technology – Real Time Moisture Monitoring helps out in mini-Catastrophe

On May 31st, 2010 SMT provided monitoring kits out of inventory slated for deployments elsewhere in North America to Winnipeg based restoration contractors so that they could take on the dry-out of more building structures with the same amount of limited labour.   The weekend damage from overland flooding and sewer back-ups has required the restoration contractor to bring in all available resources.  The key to the dry out process is to deploy as much dry out equipment as possible – and monitor the sites in which need further attention, and move equipment quickly to the next site to further medicate the effects of the moisture related damage from mould and rot.

The SMT Moisture Monitoring Kit provides the restoration contractor with real-time site data and information of the dry out process and enables contractors to monitor the work, while taking on more work at other premises.

Chris Buzunis, an engineer with SMT says “It’s nice that our technology could help those close to home, normally we are shipping our kits to other north American locations, but we have held back out our latest shipment for use right here.”

Brad Koster of First General Services Restoration is deploying the latest in monitoring technology city-wide.  “The SMT Kits enable us to watch the dry-out of the job sites from our office – reducing travel time and enabling us to take on more jobs.  It is key that we get to as many homes as soon as we can – so the costs of this event can reduced from long term water damage.”

The SMT monitoring system work on the new wireless technology developed at their offices at the University of Manitoba’s Smart Park.  The Restoration Monitoring Kit was recently induced North American wide after consultation with the insurance industry and  contractors to enable real-time attention and verification to the dry out process.
