SMT Sensors will be used in the Seismic Rehabilitation of the New Lord Nelson Elementary

Overview LOCATION: Vancouver, BC COMPLETED: Ongoing AREA: 10,000 Sq. Ft. SENSOR CLASS: Building Intelli Conventional Roof Monitoring, Wall Moisture Detection System. INDUSTRY: Institutional SMT will be involved in the upcoming replacement of the century-old Lord Nelson Elementary to provide seismic rehabilitation support. The school was granted a risk rating of High 1, stating that it is at the highest risk of widespread damage or structural failure making it unrepairable after the event. Therefore, both structural and non-structural seismic upgrades are required. The new building will have the same capacity as the old one: 57 kindergarten and 373 grades 1 to 7 students. This building is pro

SMT provided services and systems for The New Jubilee House

SMT Research collaborated with high-achieving builders, architects, engineers, fabricators, and interior designers to construct the New Jubilee House located on Richards Street. The purpose of this new building is to replace the Old Jubilee House across the street, which was scheduled for demolition. With a new 12-story building in place, the 162 new affordable housing units for low-income residents and seniors can be utilized. This newly built building will assist in fostering positive social outcomes and offers a range of amenities such as; a lounge, library, computer room, communal kitchen and a rooftop garden. Moreover, these spaces will provide enhanced programming and encourage friends

SMT Involved with Minoru Park Expansion

In 2015, SMT Research took part in the construction of Kiwanis Minoru Park Tower located in the Brighouse Village neighborhood in Richmond. The tower is a 16-story building consisting of 296 one bedroom apartments for Senior living. SMT Research was primarily responsible for scanning the plaza deck of low income housing and condominiums. More Specifically, SMT Research’s Building Intelli, which monitors the membrane, and our DigiSCAN 360 Services which pinpoints leak locations prior to covering the membrane, were used in this project. Furthermore, the renovations successfully met the requirements of Roofing Contractors of British Columbia (RCABC) plaza deck waterproofing systems. Moving forw

SMT Project Updates: SOLO District and The Amazing Brentwood

SMT is currently involved with two of the biggest developments in the Burnaby and Metro Vancouver area: The SOLO District and The Amazing Brentwood. With both developments being major zoning projects in the area, we are excited to see the final projects after completion! SMT is providing our DigiSCAN 360 Services technology to detect leaks in the membranes and to make sure the waterproofing is up to standard in the SOLO District. With a scheduled completion at the end of 2017, the development will have a total of 360 units. For the Brentwood development, we are providing our Building Intelli systems for permanent moisture monitoring atop select membrane. This is accompanied by a DigiSCAN to

SMT Creates Data Visualization Interface for UBC Tall Wood Building

SMT has been working on a special project for the sensor installation of the UBC Brock Commons Tall Wood Building. In order to monitor vertical movement, SMT installed sensors to determine wood compression and settling, as well as moisture performance in the prefabricated cross laminated timber panels (CLT). For this, point moisture measurement, temperature, and displacement sensors were installed in each panel during construction. As an academic hub for students and research alongside its primary function as a student residence, we have been working on an application to let those inside, study and monitor the performance, seeing sensor data in real time. Using the Unity Game engine, the bui

SMT Sensors being used to monitor innovative multifunctional wood panels

In conjunction with FPInnovations in 2015, SMT solutions were installed in two test hut demonstration buildings to monitor the performance of multi-functional wood panels. With increasingly strict environmental and energy specific standards, the panels were created to achieve both energy efficiency and resilient structural performance standards, all while being a lower-cost option for future building construction. On this project, two identical demonstration buildings were made for monitoring and demonstration in Vancouver and Edmonton. This was to see real-life applications in both cool and humid environments. SMT provided our sensor solutions to help monitor various parameters in the test
