After many years of planning, Vancouver’s Oakridge Centre redevelopment is set to be one of the largest redevelopments in the city’s history, and also set to be SMT's largest project too. Oakridge has been a cultural hub for Vancouver since the 1950’s, which is why upgrades to the mall and surrounding areas were long overdue. Oakridge upon completion is set to be the third largest shopping mall in British Columbia, behind Park Royal in West Vancouver and Metropolis at Metrotown. This mixed-use commercial and residential space will be home to over 6,000 residents, 100’s of retailers, and large office spaces. With the completion date set for 2027, it will double the size of the original space created. One of the many unique aspects to this project is that it also comes with 9 acres of park space that will be situated above the shopping centre, unifying nature and city. Green roofs are becoming increasingly more popular, and for good reason; they provide improved air quality, reduce noise pollution and promote mental well being. Vancouver is well known for it's beautiful forests, mountains and fields, integrating those characteristics within a city will not only be aesthetically pleasing, but will improve the quality of life for all inhabitants. With all of this new park space and occupants, Oakridge requires state of the art monitoring so these structures (and it’s assets) can last for many decades to come. SMT implemented it’s FutureCast Passive and Active monitoring systems to the spaces in order to ensure adequate protection from leaks, and used our Digiscan for quality assurance; giving the owner’s and occupants peace of mind for their buildings. Construction is ongoing, be sure to check back for updates as this project progresses!
